Nutri Ninja Auto IQ BL480D

Personal blenders are all the rage, and Ninja's 'Nutri Ninja Auto IQ' is our favorite of them all. There is no ingredient that the powerful 1000w motor can not pulverize.

The appliance is durable, reliable, and looks brilliant. The Auto IQ technology that automatically times, pulses and pauses the blending sequence for better consistency and containers with attachable ‘spout lids’ make this one of the most convenient and practical single-serve blenders available.

Magic Bullet

If you want value for money, then look no further than the Magic Bullet. This blender has sold more units on Amazon than possibly all other personal blenders, combined.

The design is simple but easy to use, which is very popular amongst consumers. It looks great, and for the low price point, has a relatively good blending performance. However, you will need to blend for a little longer with harsher ingredients like ice and frozen fruit.

Personal blenders are ideal appliances for people into health and fitness, live on their own, or just want to blend low quantities at any one time.

These relatively compact kitchen appliances are powerful, yet convenient, reliable, yet affordable and are suited for busy lifestyles. They’re also super easy to clean.

Let’s look at our six favorite models.

1. Nutri Ninja Auto IQ BL480

Things To Love

  • High Performance: This Ninja blender is unrivaled in its performance as a personal single-serve blender. The powerful motor and reliable components ensure the Auto IQ tackles jobs in the kitchen with ease.
  • Auto IQ Technology: The two pre-set programs will select the precise time and paused pulses needed to perfectly blend your drinks, dips and smoothies while the LCD shows how long is left in the cycle.
  • ‘Nutrient Extraction’: While this is just a clever marketing term, the robust blades and high wattage motor means the Nutri Ninja can transform whole fruits and vegetables into tasty smoothies without the need to remove cores, stems, pips, and seeds.
  • Convenience: As this appliance is a single-serve device, you simply blend your ingredients in the pitcher, fit a “spout lid,” and away you go.

What’s Not To Like?

  • It’s Loud: While all blenders are relatively loud, especially when pulverizing solid ingredients like ice and frozen fruits, the Nutri Ninja Auto IQ seems unusually noisy.

Final Remarks

This Ninja product performs better than most small kitchen appliances. It has a small footprint, single-serve containers with “to go” lids, and the 1000W motor deals with most blending jobs with ease. It has a marginally higher price point than similar style devices, but its superb performances make the Nutri Ninja Auto IQ BL480 one of the best blenders for personal use on the market.

Overall Score: 14.5/20

  • Wattage: 250W

Things To Love

  • Affordable: While the Magic Bullet is not the cheapest blender on our list, it is very affordable and does the best job for a relatively low cost.
  • Ease To Use: All too often, appliances can get bogged down with technology, but the Magic Bullet is straightforward in design and simple to use.
  • Pulse Feature: Despite the manual nature of the Magic Bullet, this appliance can ‘pulse’ to help with stubborn ingredients. Simply push down sporadically on top of the container when it’s locked into the motor base for brief blasts of power.
  • Cup Attachments: These simple rings transform blender jars into useable cups in seconds.
  • Good Entry Level Model: For a reasonable price point, you’re getting a decent insight into the world of personal blenders. While it’s not up to the task of finely processing tough ingredients, it’s perfect for everyday smoothies, and protein shakes.

What’s Not To Like?

  • Blending Takes Longer: Because this is more of a low budget product and doesn’t have a powerful motor, it’s going to take longer to ensure you have a smooth, consistent blend.
  • Struggles with Ice: The Magic Bullet does struggle with ice somewhat. Issues like these will occur with low budget models, but don’t let that take away from the overall value of this blender.

Final Remarks

When you’re looking for overall value, you need an appliance that’s a good all-rounder for a lower price point. Of course, it’s not going to match up to the top quality blenders, which is why it costs less.

The Magic Bullet isn’t going to break the bank, and it does a decent job with most things. It does struggle with large ice cubes, but if you’re on a tight budget, there are ways and means to get around these issues with a little creative thinking.

Overall Score: 14/20

Things To Love

  • Performs Well: When we pitted the NutriBullet against the Nutri Ninja in a recent article, we found them to be very evenly matched in terms of price and performance. NutriBullet produces wonderfully smooth shakes and sauces.
  • Large Capacity: The NutriBullet has the most substantial capacity container on our list. With a 32oz cup, you can fit in more ingredients for larger beverages.
  • Simplicity: Not unlike the Magic Bullet, the NutriBullet is extremely simple to use. There are no confusing buttons, dials, or sliders. Just insert the container and blend away.
  • Color Options: There isn’t a kitchen in the land whose décor you couldn’t match with the eleven various color options that come with this blender. They all look classy too.

What’s Not To Like?

  • Only One Speed: A variety in speed helps with a more consistent blend and improves versatility, but with the NutriBullet, it’s just all or nothing.
  • Leaky Lid: It’s not unknown for the container lids on the NutriBullet to spring minor leaks. Nothing too drastic but enough to be a minor annoyance.

Final Remarks

This single-serve appliance is a smoothie icon, and one of the best-selling small blenders around, and with good reason. It has a reasonable price point for a blender of this size, simple to use, and pulverizes ingredients like a beast. Did we mention the massive array of colors available for the NutriBullet?

Overall Score: 14/20

4. Nutri Ninja Pro

  • Capacity: 24oz
  • Available Colors: Black/Silver
  • Dishwasher Safe: Selected Parts
  • Wattage: 900W
  • Number of Speeds: 1

Things To Love

  • Affordable Performance: While the Pro doesn’t quite have the 1000w motor of the Auto IQ, it’s not far off with a more than adequate 900 watts of power, giving it an almost comparable performance for a fraction of the cost.
  • It’s Easy To Use: The Nutri Ninja Pro is very similar in terms of ease of use to the NutriBullet. There are no switches, dials, buttons, or modes. Simply lock your container into place and blend.
  • Use Whole Fruits and Veggies: The specialist blade system means you can throw whole fruits and vegetables into the container without the need to remove the seeds, pips, or cores, and the Nutri Ninja Pro will blast them into oblivion.

What’s Not To Like?

  • Very Noisy: Similar to the Auto IQ, this appliance is very noisy. But that is a compromise you have to make when you choose an appliance with a powerful motor.
  • It’s All Manual: There is no automatic feature with the Nutri Ninja Pro. Your hand will have to push the cup down at all times for the appliance to be switched on, which could get tiring with longer jobs.

Final Remarks

If you’re looking for a blender that performs as well as the Nutri Ninja Auto IQ, but your budget doesn’t quite stretch far enough, the Nutri Ninja Pro is what you’re looking for. With a similar capacity, performance, and build quality, the Pro is cheaper than its big brother but doesn’t have the automation, hence the lower price point.

What’s Not To Like?

  • Doesn’t Blend Ice Well: This appliance has a low price point and, as such, struggles with large chunks of ice. It might be worth smashing the cubes slightly to give the blender a helping hand.
  • Louder Than Any Other Blender: All blenders are relatively loud. Some blenders are louder than others. This blender is the loudest thing in your kitchen.

Final Remarks

The Homegeek Mini is a low-risk, low-cost personal single serve blender that serves the purposes of being quick and convenient for people on the go.

It is small and stylish and a good option if you’re new to the world of blending.

  • Not the Smoothest: Let’s face it, this super cheap blender is not going to make smoothies without leaving a chunk or two. You can either give it an extra 60-second blend or just chow down.
  • Poor Longevity: The Oster My Blend is a fantastic little blender for the money, but it’s not going to last as long as a Ninja or a NutriBullet.

Final Remarks

This cheap and cheerful blender can give you a gentle introduction into the world of smoothies. It’s not going to provide you with the smoothest of blends, but nor will it break the bank.

It’s small and convenient and can help get you started on the road to good health.
