Looks

It’s no secret that Ninja makes mighty-fine looking appliances. I’m yet to see a Ninja product that wasn’t easy on the eye. The 8-Quart Foodi FD401 is no exception, though the usual matt black Ninja finish has been exchanged for a more contrasting black and stainless-steel finish, giving it a more professional kitchen-style look.

The modern control panel is crisp and clean, with smart touch buttons, sleek dials, and a large LCD that’s easy to read.

Score: 4/5

Capacity

The Ninja Foodi FD401 is an absolute behemoth of an appliance, with an 8-quart cooking capacity that is undoubtedly big enough to cater for even the largest families or fanatical batch cookers.

Along with the 8-quart inner pot comes an XL 5-quart ‘cook & crisp’ basket so you can air fry all the wings and fries you could ever want.

However, the large capacity means this multicooker is very big and very heavy. Make sure you have enough space in your kitchen before making a purchase. The massive footprint is exacerbated by the outer lid being fixed to the cooker, so when the top is open, the height of the appliance increases further. There’s no chance this Ninja Foodi will fit under any kitchen cabinets.

Features

  • TenderCrisp Technology: The crowning glory of the Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 8-Quart Multicooker is the TenderCrisp technology. A standard pressure cooker or multicooker can cook a whole chicken; however, they can’t give your meats a crispy finish. Ninja invented the technology to make this possible with the Foodi.
  • Multi-Function: The number of options that come with the Ninja Foodi Multicooker is mind-blowing. The pressure cooker (selected as the best pressure cooker), slow cooker, and air fryer give the appliance tons of versatility, while the various settings allow you to cook a vast array of different kinds of foods.
  • Deluxe Reversible Rack: The deluxe rack is a two-tier system that allows you to utilize the enormous capacity with even more efficiency. This reversible rack can be used for steaming or broiling and can hold eight chicken breasts at any one time.
  • Safety Features: There is a long-held belief that pressure cookers can be dangerous, which is valid to a certain extent. While severe accidents are few and far between, Ninja have incorporated 14 safety features to give you peace of mind in the kitchen. However, the pressure release valve will require you to wear a mitt when venting the steam.

Performance & Cleaning

There aren’t many brands and multicooker models that can rival the Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 8-Quart FD401 Multicooker in terms of performance and reliability. Of the 14,000+ units sold on Amazon, an astonishing 95% of customers rate this Ninja appliance at four stars or higher (87% at five stars), giving the FD401 almost complete consumer confidence.

Cleaning the cooker is easy, too, thanks to ceramic coated pots and dishwasher safe parts.

Looks

When it comes to designing kitchen appliances, Ninja are right up there with the best in the business for manufacturing products that look fantastic and can slot seamlessly into most kitchens. They also stay on brand, making their cookers look almost stealthy … like a ninja.

The Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 6.5-Quart Multicooker has a sleek black and grey gloss finish and is as curvaceous as it is contemporary. The control panel is intuitive and functional while not losing any attractiveness.

The iconic silver Ninja logo sits on the lid, completing the superb overall aesthetics.

Score: 4/5

Capacity

Ninja have built the 6.5-quart Foodi Multicooker with large families in mind. There is ample space to cook whole chickens, large joints of meat, and enough stew to feed a small army.

Alongside the 6.5-quart ceramic coated inner pot, the Ninja Foodi comes with a 4-quart ‘cook and crisp’ basket for all your air frying needs. The basket is also ceramic coated, so remember always to use non-abrasive utensils when using and cleaning this appliance.

Like its big brother, this appliance is relatively substantial, weighs a lot, and has a fixed lid that increases the machine’s overall height when it’s open.

Score: 4/5

Features

  • TenderCrisp Technology: This multicooker is fitted with the same TenderCrisp feature as the larger Ninja Foodi FD401, giving you the ability to crisp those tender meats and fries, for delicious meals every time.
  • Nine Different Functions: It is entirely possible to replace most of your kitchen appliances with the Ninja Foodi OP302. Not only is it a pressure cooker, but it doubles as a yogurt maker, steamer, slow cooker, air fryer (you can also choose Ninja Air fryers for that), and can also bake, roast, broil, and dehydrate. The keep-warm function will make sure your food is still hot when the family is ready to eat.
  • Safety Features: Despite its smaller stature, Ninja have subjected the Foodi OP302 to the same vigorous checks and applied the same safety features as they have on the larger FD401.
  • Reversible Rack: This handy device gives the Ninja Foodi even more versatility. Use it for steaming, flip it for broiling, or cook multiple foods simultaneously using the rack to separate your ingredients.

Performance & Cleaning

The reason Ninja multicookers are so popular is that they do exactly what they’re supposed to do, and they do it well. Much like its larger brother, the Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 6.5-Quart Multicooker is superb across the board.

This multicooker produces delicious foods in a variety of ways, and in double-quick time.

It doesn’t just have high-end performance either, oh no, it’s durable and reliable to the point that numbers of unit failure are minuscule compared to the number of appliances sold.

Cleaning is also super easy thanks to the removable parts being dishwasher safe and ceramic coated. Though the coating will mean you need to avoid using metal utensils and cleaning products when you’re having fun with your Ninja Foodi.

Should you buy the Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 6.5-Quart Multicooker (OP302)?

If you don’t need the cavernous cooking capacity of the FD401, or maybe your budget doesn’t stretch that far, the 6.5-quart version of the Ninja Foodi could be just what you’re looking for.

It has almost the same capabilities as its big brother but just on a smaller scale, and it’s more affordable too.

Looks

Of the three multicookers we have reviewed in this article, the Ninja Instant scores the lowest in terms of appearance. But that doesn’t mean this thing is ugly, far from it, it’s just unfortunate to be compared to two stunning appliances.

The Ninja Instant PC101 has a stainless-steel silver finish complimented by the black plastic lid (the promotional and advertising pictures do not do this appliance justice).

A simple yet effective control panel sits centrally, rounding out the appearance of Ninja’s Instant multicooker.

Score: 3.5/5

Capacity

With 6-quarts of cooking capacity, the Ninja Instant is the smallest multicooker we’re looking at today; however, it is still a substantial unit. 6-quarts can easily cater to the needs of large families. Despite having a reasonably significant cooking capacity, the overall footprint is noticeably smaller than the two Foodi appliances.

The lid is also detachable, which makes it easier to move around your kitchen.

Score: 3.5/5

Features

  • Five Settings: The Ninja Instant comes equipped with five different functions, which gives this multicooker a decent amount of versatility considering its significantly lower price point. The functions are pressure cook, slow cook, sear/saute, steam, and a keep warm setting.
  • Eleven Levels of Safety: While the Ninja Instant safety protocols aren’t quite as robust as the two Ninja Foodi models, it has eleven levels of safety and has passed stringent tests to ensure consumers are safe in the kitchen.

 Score: 3/5

Performance & Cleaning

The Ninja Instant is a structurally sound appliance with the same longevity as the 6.5 and 8-quart Foodi multicookers. It does have far fewer options so that it won’t be as versatile in the kitchen, but that’s to be expected when you consider the price difference.

A minority of consumers have reported the ceramic coating has chipped away slightly on their inner pot and contaminated the food. Still, the overwhelming majority of customers are delighted with their multicookers.

One small consideration; when manually setting the time and pressure of the appliance, ensure to change the pressure setting before selecting a length of time; otherwise, the timer will reset itself.

As usual, a non-stick coating and dishwasher safe parts make yet another Ninja product a cinch to clean.

Score 4/5

Should you buy the Ninja Instant 6-Quart Multicooker (PC101)?

You don’t always need to spend a small fortune to buy a top-quality kitchen appliance.

Of course, the Ninja Instant doesn’t have many features as do the Ninja Foodi models, and the safety functions aren’t quite as vigorous. Still, if you can live without the massive cooking capacity and air frying capabilities, the Ninja Instant 6-Quart PC101 Muilticooker is every bit as capable as its larger siblings, and at a fraction of the cost.
